KOHIMA: Even though watershed change in Naga history had taken place with the advent of Christianity into the land of Ao Nagas, yet a number of villages were reluctant to see the light of the gospel being brought by Dr. E. W. Clark, who had a vision to transform the hill people who were, at that time, engaged in head hunting.
Perhaps the forefathers of those villages were contented with their time-tested culture, customs and beliefs.
There were few villages that resisted the wind of change at the time when the entire Ao villages in Mokokchung district accepted Christianity for more than 40 years.
The Khar village in Mokokchung district was no exception as the villagers were looking forward to celebrating 100 years of Christianity in 2012.
The Khar Baptist Church organized a programme for the youth as a prelude to the centenary under the theme ‘Know your identity’ where Khar village youth from all over the state attended four-day congregation from December 8 last.
Besides spiritual activities, the youth had a chance to get actively involved in the social activities such as furthering relationships with one another, community cleanliness drive, protection of biodiversity and community fishing.
During the four-day camp, Lulen Jamir, Director, Good News Ministries, Dimapur was the resource person. (UNI)
