NAGPUR: Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) international president Praveen Togadia on Monday criticized the Union government for granting reservation on the ground of religion and demanded that it should apologise to Hindus of the nation for giving their quota of reservation to Muslims.

Noting that granting of reservation on the ground of religion is unconstitutional, he said the VHP would take initiative and launch a national movement against the government.

Mr Togadia was interacting with media persons in ‘Meet the Press’ programme organised by Nagpur Union of Working Journalists here this evening. He pointed that government deliberately gave 4.5 per cent quota to Muslims from the OBC’s quota of 27 per cent, and said the “Muslims and Christians are the caste-less religions” and hence it should be given only to the Hindus.

He said that Muslims demand of 20 per cent reservation was wrong and charged that government took this decision to appease the minority because of vote bank politics.

Mr Togadia demanded that government should withdraw the reservation for Muslims immediately, reject Justice Sachchar committee and Rangnath Mishra reports, remove Christians from the list of Scheduled Tribes and cancel the reservation given to them.

He said the VHP will call for a nationwide ‘Hindu Roti and Shiksha Bachaao’ agitation shortly, in which one crore Hindu unemployed youth will demonstrate on road against government’s decision, he claimed.

On VHP’s future action plan, he said ”We have plans to reach more than one lakh villages to organize unemployed Hindu youths. The VHP will work for women empowerment and upliftment of farmers.” (UNI)
