New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee introduced the Prevention of Money Laundering (Amendment) Bill, 2011 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The Bill has been brought in to bring the anti-money laundering legislation of the country at par with the international standards and to obviate some of the deficiencies in the Act of 2002 experienced by the implementing agencies.
The changes were necessitated in view of the fact that problem of money laundering was no longer restricted to geopolitical boundaries of any country, and it was being used to finanace terrorist activities.
The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2011 to amend the Constitution(Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the ST list in the state of Karnataka was introduced by Minister for Tribal Affairs V Kishore Chandra Deo.
Minister for IT and Communications Kapil Sibal introduced the Electronic Delivery of Services Bill, 2011.
The Bill provides for electronic delivery of public services by the Government to all persons to ensure transparency, efficiency, accountablity, accessibility and reliability in delivery of such services and connected matters.
Besides, the Lok Sabha agreed to the amendments made by the Rajya Sabha in the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research Bill, 2011.
The changed Bill was moved by Minister for Science and Technology Vilasrao Deshmukh for consideration of the House.
Earlier, as the House of the People assembled for the day, Speaker Meira Kumar on behalf of the Members expressed condolence over the death of former member S Bangarappa, who died on December 26. Besides, the House mourned the death of 22 persons in a boat capsize incident in Tamil Nadu. (PTI)
