IMPHAL: The Congress is eyeing 40 to 45 seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly election to which will be held on January 28, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at a function at the Congress Office to observe the 126th foundation day of the Indian National Congress.

Virtually launching an election campaign he said, ”Opposition parties keep on levelling various charges, but it is for the people to decide if the Congress will come back to power or not”.

He lauded the people for enabling the Congress to work for ten continous years.

”It is hard to make central leaders understand the ground situation,” he added.

When central leaders come to Manipur they are taken to far-flung areas by air. New Assembly, High Court complexes were inaugurated and at all district headquarters new Secretariat complexes were constructed, he said.

The buildings inaugurated will not generate revenue or employment but if the Congress returns to power new irrigation projects will be taken up to make people self reliant, he explained. (UNI)
