IMPHAL: The Manipur People’s Party, which had on Monday said it would ally with the BJP to fight the January 28 Assembly election, indicated on Tuesday it would put up at least 15 candidates in the 60-member House.
Sources in the MPP said the party had also signed agreements with the CPI, JD (U) and NCP for a pre-poll alliance in a bid to oust the ‘corrupt’ Congress-led Secular Progressive Front ministry.
BJP national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar had told mediapersons yesterday that the MPP was now a member of the National Democratic Alliance.
Senior MPP state legislature wing leader O Joy said the party would raise the issue of protection of Manipur boundary, insurgency, corruption in government departments, misuse of drugs and other issues during election campaigns.
While MPP is likely to announce its list of candidates either today or tomorrow, Congress will forward their list to the AICC headquarter this evening for approval, sources said. (PTI)
