KOHIMA: Though the cultivation and usage of medicinal plant Panax Ginseng in the high altitude places in Nagaland is a very old practice, so far there were no scientific methods in Ginseng cultivation here.
Official sources said Ginseng is any one of eleven species of slow-growing perennial plants with fleshy roots, belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae, which is being cultivated and growing wild in Nagaland and some parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Due to want of scientific method in this regard, e selected business establishments, sources said.
However, Nagaland Horticulture Department has taken up the issue to give boost to its commercial cultivation and alerted the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees to look into the matter of its market and selling outside the state. In Nagaland, Ginseng is widely cultivated in Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Tuensang and Kiphire districts. (UNI)
