Pune Intl Film Festival from Jan 12

PUNE: The 10th edition of Pune Interational Film Festival (PIFF) will be inaugurated on January 12 at City Pride in Kothrud area of the city.

The eight-day festival, organised jointly by the Pune Film Foundation and Government of Maharashtra, will screen more than 200 films from over 40 countries at City Pride Kothrud, R-Deccan, City Pride Avhiruchi, E-Square, Inox and National Film Archives of India (NFAI), said Jabbar Patel, director of PIFF, here today.

Members of the film fraernity including film-makers, actors, directors, film technicians and critics, from both India and abroad, will attend the festival. Films in various categories will compete for cash awards in the World section (14 films), Marathi section (7 films) and the Whisting Woods International Student section (18 fims). Also, differet sections will highlight global cinema, retrospectives, Indian cinema today, Marathi cinema today, documentaries and tributes.

The special ‘Country Focus’ will be on Germany, under which 47 German movies will be screened, he said.

Also, there will be the Vijay Tendulkar Memorial Lectures, in which eminent film personalities will throw light on differennt aspects of cinema.

For the past nine years, PIFF has been conferrig an award on two film personalities for their cotribution to Indian cinema.

Another tradition of PIFF is the S D Burman Award for creative music and sound given to a person who has made a significant contribution in the field. Details of the awards will be given out shortly, Patel added. (UNI)
