SHILLONG: In an attempt to plug out the leakages in the State revenue, the government has mooted setting up of integrated check gates on the national highway 44.
Talking to media persons here on Tuesday, Transport Minister AT Mondal stated that the government has identified four locations along the Jorabat-Umling stretch to set up integrated check gates. The government has come up with the idea of setting up the integrated checkgates in a bid to streamline revenue collection as well as check unscrupulous elements from operating illegal toll gates.
It may be mentioned that a committee was formed to look into the possibilities of setting up the integrated check gates instead of the old multiple check gates.
“We are working on the recommendations of the committee,” Mondal told reporters here.
According to Mondal, once the proposed check gates are set up, all the revenue collection department would come under one roof which would plug the revenue leakages from the state. The opposition has been demanding for setting up of an integrated check gates instead of the existing illegal multiple gates to check the revenue leakage.
Reacting to a query, Mondal informed that the Government intends to construct a state of the art integrated check gate but it depends on the investment for constructing well looked integrated check gates.
“We would see if we can make the check gates from our own resources,” he added. A hue and cry was raised in the past over the existence of the illegal toll gates along different roads particularly NH 62 where the truckers are allegedly forced to pay more money than the exact amount
AT Mondal also informed that the Government is presently trying to find out a land for the integrated check gate in Garo Hills.
