Shillong Chamber Choir to perform in Kohima today

KOHIMA: The renowned Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) will perform a musical night at Indira Gandhi Stadium at Mereima, near here Wednesday to offer a ‘thank you message’ to the people of the state.

Addressing a press conference at here on Tuesday the leader of the Shillong Chamber Choir Neil Nongkynrih told newsmen that the SCC was started in 2001.

In 2009, the choir performed with Vienna chamber orchestra in Shillong and Kolkota.

They were first invited to The Rashtrapati Bhavan by the then president of India A P J Abdul Kalam in 2005 and henceforth by President Pratibha Devisingh Patil for the Annual Christmas concert.

In November 2010, they performed for visiting U S President Barack Obama and the first Lady Michelle Obama at the presidential palace.

The choir shot to fame after winning season 2 of the reality TV show India’s Got Talent.

Earlier in the year, they won Gold Diplomas at the World choir Games in Shaoxing, China in 2010 for all the three categories in which they participated – Music Sacra, Gospel and Popular. (UNI)
