Twelve dead as Shillong-bound bus meets with tragedy

Dimapur: At least 12 people were killed and 15 others injured when a bus they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge at Piphema in Nagaland along National Highway-2, Imphal-Dimapur road, police said on Thursday. Piphema is located at around 40 kilometres towards Kohima from Dimapur.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at around 10 pm when a Shillong-bound Manipur passenger bus, which was carrying about 50 passengers skidded off the road and plunged into a 300 feet deep gorge after the driver lost control, killing 12 people and injuring another 15.

The ill-fated bus (MN01-1833) belonged to Network Travels, police said.

The bodies were taken to Dimapur civil hospital where the injured also underwent treatment. (NNN)
