LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron has said he would be happy to meet murdered Indian student Anuj Bidve’s parents to speak about their son’s death, local media reports said here on Friday.
Parents of Bidve have arrived in the UK on Wednesday to take his body back to India for the last rites. BBC quoted his parents as saying that they would definitely like to meet him.
Cameron said, “They haven’t made that request – quite understandably they want to come and see where their son was killed, what happened at the end of his life, and I hope the Manchester police are giving them every facility to do that. Cameron said it was “an absolutely horrific act” that had taken their son away. “It is unacceptable to have this sort of crime going on in our country,” he told the BBC.
Mr Bidve’s family visited Lancaster University and met with university officials and Mr Bidve’s fellow students and tutors. “We have been overwhelmed by the reaction and interest of the media both at home in India and here in the United Kingdom,” BBC quoted them as saying.
The funeral of Anuj, who was killed on Boxing day while visiting Manchester with his 9 other Indian students, in an unprovoked attack is due to take place in India ton Saturday.
Four persons were arrested and among them one who describes his name “Psycho” has been remanded in custody. At the scene, his father Subhash Bidve and mother Yogini said it was an “exceedingly difficult visit to make”.
Mr Bidve said, “The only person we blame is the person who was responsible for taking Anuj away from us in this senseless act of violence on Boxing Day morning.” He said the family had been “deeply moved” by the support people had shown them during their visit to the UK. The 23-year-old Lancaster University student was killed while visiting Greater Manchester with friends over the festive period. (UNI)
