SHILLONG: The family members of a BSF personnal, travelling in a vehicle, were looted and some of them assaulted near Nongpoh in Ri-Bhoi district on Friday night by miscreants.

According to police, the incident took place at around 10 pm on Friday when the BSF constable and his family were coming from Guwahati to Shillong in a tourist taxi.

The miscreants, who were following the tourist taxi in a sumo, accosted the family and looted and assaulted them after their vehicle had stopped due to the traffic snarl at a place near Nongpoh. The miscreants decamped with Rs 90,000 in cash and gold ornaments after assaulting the occupants of the vehicle.

The police seized both the sumo and the tourist taxi and subsequently a police team rushed to Assam to take custody of the driver.
