SHILLONG: The NCP State Election Committee (SEC) has decided to start issuing application forms for the party ticket for the upcoming 2013 Assembly election from February 1.

“We would like to set in motion the process for selection of candidates for the upcoming Assembly election. We have decided to start issuing the application forms for the party ticket from February 1,” NCP SEC convener Conrad K Sangma told reporters after a meeting of the SEC on Saturday.

Sangma informed that during the marathon five-hour meeting the party carried out a detailed analysis of all the 60 Assembly constituencies.

“We also had a discussion on the candidates who have already applied for the party tickets,” the NCP leader said.

When asked if the party was considering to adopt a similar policy like the Congress of conducting election in the different party units where there were more than one person seeking the party ticket, he said that the party would take a final decision after receiving the applications of the party tickets from all the constituencies.

Replying to a query, he said that the party was yet to decide on the number of constituencies where it would put up its candidates for the Assembly election.

“We would take a final call on all these matters in the months to come,” Sangma added.
