Teachers barred from engaging in private teaching

Shillong: The State Government has prohibited screening procedures of students during admission in ‘all schools including private schools’ even as it barred teachers from engaging in private teaching activity.

“The state government prohibits screening procedures, i.e. any tests or interviews of the child or interaction with parents for admission,” a government order, issued recently, said.

A senior government official said this prohibition would apply to all schools as per clause (n) of section 2 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Further, the government has also restricted all school teachers from engaging in private tuition or teaching privately in their homes.

Until last year, children in the State (KG upto Class XI) face stringent screening procedures from school administration. (PTI)
