JOWAI: The Jaintia Youth Federation (JYF), Eastern Jaintia Hills jointly with the All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organisation (AJYWO), East Jaintia Zone submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh and demanded strengthening of Infiltration check gates within Khliehriat Sub-Division.

According to AJYWO EJZ President, CL Suchiang and JYF-EJH President, Bishar Ryngkhlem, they have also submitted a copy of their representation to the Inspector General of Police (Infil), to the Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.

The AJYWO-EJZ and JYF-EJH has demanded immediate opening of the newly installed infiltration check gate at Byndihati in Khliehriat Sub-Division.

“The installation of the check gate was completed a year ago but it has not been functioning till date”, JYF-EJH President, B Ryngkhlem said.

It may be mentioned here that the Infiltration gate at Khliehriat was placed in the wrong location and police personnel find it very hard to deal with illegal migrants who intrude to Jaintia Hills district.

The Khliehriat check gate was supposed to be shifted to Byndihati, but due to complaint lodged by the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), the operation of the check gate was suspended for about a year now.
