State police to establish high officials, PDS nexus

SHILLONG: Meghalaya police is now on the job to establish the nexus between high officials of the Government with those engaged in the business of the Public Distribution System (PDS) in Shillong.

It may be mentioned that

recently the SWAT team of the state police seized some documents and large quantities of PDS items including rice and sugar from a godown belonging to two city businessmen.

Sources said that police had already sought clarification from certain banks in Shillong after the seizure of bank documents which had shown that some payments were made to certain officials.

Four persons have been arrested so far in this connection and police have also interrogated the present wholesaler of Laitumkhrah L Surong last year. According to sources, police have widened the investigation looking at all possible angles to get to the bottom of the PDS scam in East Khasi Hills.Earlier on Friday, police had seized another 367 sacks of rice and 35 sacks of sugar suspected to be PDS items.The 367 sacks of rice and 35 sacks of sugar were seized from the godowns of the two businessmen – Nitesh Agarwal and Nand Kishore Agarwal – at Iew Mawlong following raids conducted by the police.
