TURA: A day long workshop on E-Services for the Meghalaya Value Added Tax Act of 2005 was conducted at district auditorium of Tura on Tuesday that aims to bring government services to the doorsteps of the people and reduce time and paperwork for services like filing necessary paperwork for different services.
The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal was the chief guest for the program and he highlighted various steps being taken to expand e-services to the people in Garo Hills.
The training program has been organized by the Meghalaya Taxation Department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
At the onset of the program, the senior system analyst of NIC Shillong A Wanswet dwelt at length the latest in technological services which the government is pursuing to help its citizens.
He said this workshop is part of capacity building and E-Services will help to bring the state closer because employment will be brought to the doorstep of the people.
“Through online internet you can make your BPL Card, CasteCertificate, driving license. You can also undertake payment of tax by E-Way Bill. For all these a security code will be sent by email,” said Mr Wanswet.
Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal in his inaugural message said knowledge of computers in very important to use e-services. “With E-Services a person does not have to go to an office and fill necessary paperwork. He can get his work done merely sitting in front of a computer at home” the DC said.
According to Mr Goyal very soon e-services will be extended to the district and the deputy commissioner’s office and it will not be required for persons to go to office to get caste certificates or search for officers.
The DC said services will be given attention to three categories-
Government to Business (G-B), Government to Employment (G-E) and
Government to Citizen (G-C).
“India is a welfare state so this is an important aspect of the
government. All necessary forms pertaining to government work can now
be downloaded from the internet,” said the West Garo Hills Deputy
Commissioner.
With E-Services launch office timing will go away because it will be
available 24 hours online and people will no longer follow the old
method of visiting offices to fill paperwork.
“It will also save energy, money and time,” said Sanjay Goyal.
A member of the Meghalaya Chamber of Commerce, Obestone Sangma, also
spoke on behalf of the business community and he said it will be a
great encouragement for the traders.
