Greater Noida: Yamaha’s 2010 MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo on Wednesday gave a thumbs up to the Budh International Circuit here and said he and his colleagues can’t wait to race in the brand-new track, which hosted India’s maiden Formula 1 race last year.

Lorenzo, who also became the first MotoGP racer to take a lap around the BIC track today, termed the circuit as “futuristic”.

“Looks like a very futuristic track. It very big and wide,” said the 24-year-old Spaniard, who is here on promotion work for Yamaha at the Auto Expo 2012, India’s largest automobile show.

“I hope that MotoGP can take place here very quickly. I am looking forward to explore the country and the entire MotoGP fraternity wants a race to happen in India soon,” added Lorenzo.

For the last five years MotoGP used 800cc bikes but from next season, the action will turn to 1000cc bikes with a new breed of private constructors known as Claiming Rule Teams (CRT), who will be given fuel and engine concessions. “From next season we will be riding 1000cc bikes. So, the bikes will be little heavier and the style of riding will also be different. But we will come to know what to expect only when the testing starts,” said Lorenzo, who finished second in the riders standings last season behind Casey Stoner of Honda. (PTI)
