KOHIMA: The United Naga Council (UNC) on Thursday urged the Nagas in Manipur to support the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) in the January 28 Assembly election.

An UNC statement reiterated that its Federal Assembly held recently had resolved to support the Naga People’s Front as a logical extension of the discussions and decisions taken in the series of presidential council meetings and presented the position of the Nagas in the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly poll.

The release further stated that the Nagas in Manipur will participate in the forthcoming polls to give greater effect to the severance of political ties with the ‘communal government of Manipur’.

Stressing that this election cannot be about individual or village or tribe interest, the UNC said, ”It is about ‘securing our legitimate rights and enabling ourselves to shape our collective future.” (UNI)
