3 shot dead in Imphal

IMPHAL: Three people were shot dead in separate incidents during the past 24 hours. Police said unknown miscreants shot dead one person here on Friday. Enraged at this, people blocked the Tiddim road to protest the killing. However, they were forcibly dispersed by the police and the road cleared. In another incident at Toubungkhok, two people were allegedly shot dead in an encounter by police and 18 Sikh Regiment personnel. (UNI)

Three injured by elephant

GUWAHATI: Three persons, including a child, were injured when a domestic elephant attacked them in Kharghuli area of Guwahati on Friday. The incident took place after the pachyderm went berserk creating panic among the people, official sources said. The injured were admitted to hospital, the sources said. (PTI)

Two militants killed

IMPHAL: Two insurgents suspected to have designs to disturb the assembly poll campaign by the Congress were killed in an encounter with a combined force team in Manipur’s Imphal West district, officials said on Friday. The ultras were suspected to have entered Tabungkhok area in the district at around 8 PM on Thursday night to disturb the poll campaign following ban on the party’s nominees by major insurgent organisations.
