Awareness prog

The Directorate of Field Publicity, government of India, Tura unit in close co-ordination with district mission co-ordinator on SSA, school and local NGOs held an awareness programme on SSA at Danakgre village under Rongram block West Garo Hills on January 13. The main objective of the event was to disseminate information on SSA among the parents and students.

Winter fest

The cultural extravaganza — Tura Winter Festival – will begin on January 23. The two-day event is being sponsored by the NEC. The West Garo Hills district administration in collaboration with the Tourism department, other line departments and NGOs, IPTAC and ATS is organizing the event.

Driver killed

The body of one Ganesh Choudhury, driver of truck (AS-01DC-3887) was recovered from inside the truck at Chiruphi, NH-44 in Jaintia Hills on January 11. According to a complaint lodged by the brother of the deceased Kartik Choudhury, also a truck driver, at Lumshnong AD Camp, the handyman of the truck Pankaj Kapali had gone missing since the incident took place. It is suspected that Ganesh was murdered by unknown miscreants.

Three held

The BSF has arrested three persons from Pyrdiwah while they were trying to cross over to India. The trio has been identified as Paila Tynsong, M Khonglah and Edamon Kongwang.
