Lok Adalat

Meghalaya State Legal Service Authority in collaboration with East Garo Hills, Williamnagar organised a Lok Adalat (People’s court) at Deputy Commissioner’s Office, on on Saturday. A number of conciliators and litigants were present to settle their pending cases. Lok Adalat is a platform where pending cases are being settled by government through conciliation and compromise. The decision taken here is binding and final as is given in the judicial court. People should avail this opportunity since this is held twice and thrice in a year. Deputy Commissioner, East Garo Hills P Bakshi, opened the Lok Adalat. Altogether six Presiding Officers comprising Ram Singh, SDO (Civil), Resubelpara, W D Sangma, ADM, M K Marak, ADM, S B Marak, ADM, Dr Chalang Marak, EAC, Dr Regina Marak, EAC, were present to settle cases in the Lok Adalat. Out of 270 cases of trial a total of 37 numbers of cases have been disposed which includes 5 nos of GR cases, 20 nos of Forest Case and 10 nos of Excise cases. One GR case was compromised. A total of Rs 34,800/- has been the total fine imposed for these cases.

SAARC award

The Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports invites nominations to the SAARC Secretariat, Kathmandu from SAARC Countries for SAARC Youth Award 2011 through the Ministry of External Affairs, SAARC Division. The Award is open to nationals of SAARC member states who are within the age group of 20-35 years at the time of nomination. Nominees who have already received National Awards are encouraged to apply. The theme of the SAARC Youth Award 2011 is “Youth leadership in the fight against social ills”. The award will consist of SAARC Gold Medal, cash prize of 3000 US Dollars and a citation. Eligible persons may apply in the prescribed form available in the office of the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Shillong latest by January 18.
