SHILLONG: Hosts Chattisgarh cruised to a convincing nine-wicket victory against Meghalayain the BCCI Associate and Affiliate Members Tournament in Raipur on Sunday.

A Singh scored a brilliant century while Ian Coster made a steady 72 as last year’s runners-up Chattisgarh achieved their target in just 35.1 overs. The lone wicket that fell was claimed by Amiangshu Sen (1/23).

Earlier, electing to bat, Meghalaya rode on steady knocks from Abhishek Dasgupta(79), Raj Biswa (42) and N Deka (47) to score a competitive 224 in 48.5 overs. However that was hardly enough for the Chattisgarh batsmen who romped to victory in the 36th over with an attacking batting display by its top-order.

Meghalaya had defeated Nagaland on Saturday to mark their first win of the tournament. But Sunday’s big loss to Chattisgarh leaves the team thinktank a lot to ponder over.
