SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) which is always vocal when it comes to issues related to women and children is in the limelight now for allegedly violating the laws dealing with child labour applicable in the country.

A woman resident of Mawblei (Madanrting) alleged that the minor daughter of the Joint Secretary, CSWO is employed as a child labour in a tea stall at Block – C Patta in Madanrting area of the city. The woman showcased the photograph of the child, who is said to be less than 10 years of age, working in the tea stall, doing day-to-day chores like serving, cleaning, sweeping and even carrying water.

“The CSWO raising its voice on issues relating to child labour is mere hogwash,” said the Mawblei resident on condition of anonymity.

The woman who claims that she knows much about the “unfair” activities of CSWO said that this is unbecoming of an organization, which in the past has appealed and also held many for practicing child labour.

“On one hand they talk about doing away with child labour whereas the office bearer of the same organization is pushing his wards into it,” said the woman.
