One drowns

One Krin Hujon, 37, of Nongdom village in West Khasi hills district died after he fell from the bridge over the Shyrwang River. The body was later fished out by one of his sons and two of his friends.

Bank branch

The Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd will open its 44th Branch at Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills district on Friday at 11am. Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope will inaugurate the new branch.

Draft roll

The list of draft photo electoral rolls for 44-Raksamge (ST), 45-Tikrikilla (ST), 49-Dadenggre (ST) Assembly constituencies have been prepared and published and are available for inspection at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer, Dadenggre Civil Subdivision, West Garo hills during office hours.

Competition

The Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) on behalf of Petroleum Conservation & Research Association, a wing of Union Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, is observing Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) – 2012 from January 15-31. An inaugural ceremony will be organized on January 20 from 11:30 am at the Shillong Club which will be followed by open-to-all Quiz competition. Minister for Food & Civil Supplies Dr RC Laloo will inaugurate the programme.

Accident

A scooter (MLO7-9938) and a motorbike (MLO7-3743) were involved in a head on collision at a crossing near Police Reserve, Williamnagar in East Garo Hills on Monday. The 108 Emergency Service Ambulance based at Williamnagar admitted one Martina Marak (38/M) and another injured, who remains unidentified, to the Williamnagar Civil Hospital.

Blood Donation

The Ribbon Club of Durama College recently organized an awareness camp on HIV/AIDS and also held a voluntary blood donation camp in collaboration with the Tura Civil Hospital Blood Bank and ICTC at Ganol Apal around 9 kilometers from Tura. Students of Durama College and two NSS volunteers voluntarily donated blood at the camp.

Truckers clarify

The Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Operators Association (MCTOOA) has expressed shock over reports of alleged extortion at Hynniewmer Weighbridge in Jaintia Hills district, alleged by one Balen Thubru. The MCTOOA alleged that the report is baseless and not true. The Association also claimed that Thubru had made the allegations without the knowledge of any of the members of the Association.
