Bomb attacks in Manipur

IMPHAL: Suspected militants on Wednesday carried out bomb attacks at the residences of Congress workers in Manipur. Police said a bomb was thrown at the residence of a Congress worker at Tera Sapam Leirak, Imphal West. In another incident, a bomb was also thrown at the residence of the Pradhan of Mayang Langjing GP, police added.

In yet another incident, a bomb was lobbed towards the residence of a Congress worker at Nambol, Bishenpur district. The Coordinating committee of seven militant outfits which had banned the Congress party in the state ahead of the Assembly elections here, was suspected to be behind all the attacks, sources informed. In view of the repeated attacks on Congress workers and leaders, security had been beefed up in the state. (UNI)

Engineer set free

KOKRAJHAR (ASSAM): The abducted engineer of a private organisation has been released by his kidnappers after five days of captivity near Kashikotra, official sources said on Wednesday. Diganta Kalita, abducted on January 13 by a gang of miscreants on his way from Kokrajhar to Salakati, was released on Tuesday night, the sources said. Kalita’s firm was engaged by the NTPC for its Salakati site in Kokrajhar district. (PTI)
