AGARTALA: The state police has landed into a controversy with the rescue of a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawan from the official residence of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kishore Jha.

Police had booked the jawan, Jahangir Hussein, as trespasser and produced him before a local court, which released him on bail on January 16 . However, the TSR personnel revealed that he was asked to accompany a lady to the ADGP’s quarter.

The lady, who had allegedly accompanied the jawan, surrendered on Tuesday before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of West Tripura and was later released on bail. The issue got complicated when some local channels telecast the victim’s video with his hands tied at ADGP quarters and found the accused lady identified as Meena Roy, a businesswoman of the city, escaping from the back door.

Ms Roy said in a statement that she did not know anything about the conspiracy.

The lady said when she and her granddaughter were waiting at G B Bazar, the jawan who was known to her, offered to give her a lift. As she responded to his call, he drove the car straight to ADGP’s quarter.

Meanwhile, police statement claimed that Ms Roy and Hussein of 7th BN TSR, tried to enter the residence of ADGP with prima facie ulterior motive when Mr Jha was elsewhere holding a meeting with officials. The attempted trespass was foiled due to the alertness of the security guards at ADGP’s residence, but Ms Roy managed to escape and Hussein was detained. (UNI)
