IMPHAL: The Congress on Friday assured to completely lift AFSPA from Manipur and effectively enforce Lokayukta if it is again given the mandate in the January 28 assembly polls.
Releasing the election manifesto in presence of central representatives Eduardo Faliero and Jagdish Tytler besides state Congress president Gaikhangam, Chief Minister O Ibobi said he will urge the Centre to provide constitutional safeguards for territorial integrity of Manipur.
”Improvement of law and order will continue to be the Congress’ main priority.
AFSPA has already been withdrawn from seven assembly segments and will be further removed from the remaining part of the state as and when the law and order improves,” he said.
The party will stress on balanced development, particularly road connectivity from Sub-Divisional to District Headquaters and state capital, including NH-37, NH-39 and NH-150.
Electrification of all households under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyuti Karan Yojana (RGGVY) will be another priority.
The party assured to provide proper irrigation to pave the way for another Green Revolution which will also aim at creating more employment opportunity in both agriculture and horticulture sectors.
More employment opportunities for the educated unemployed will be created by making tourism a full fledged industry besides expanding the existing schemes for providing employment, the manifesto noted.
Public health will continue to receive the priority of the government. Fight against AIDS and rehabilitation programmes for HIV victims will be intensified.
”Congress has already translated into action the promise for setting up of Minority Commission, OBC Commission etc. and various schemes for development of the Minority and OBCs have been implemented,” Mr Ibobi said. (UNI)
