Margao: The spirited Sporting Clube de Goa took the wind out of McDowell Mohun Bagan’s sails with a fascinating 2-1 win in the 15th round of I-League Footbll Championship match played at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday.

Keita Boubacar in the 65th minute and Ogba Kalu in the 80th minute scored for Sporting Clube, while Rakesh Masih in the 71st minute scored the lone goal for Mohun Bagan. Sporting Clube were completely in command in the first session, but could not translate their superiority into goals.

In the second session, Sporting Clube continued from where they had left and finally tasted success in the 64th minute when Keita Boubacar rose high above the Bagan defence to nod Anthony’s corner-kick into the goal.

Stung by a goal, Bagan restored the parity in the 71st minute, when Rakesh Masih’s booming right-footer broke Sporting Clube’s resolve to make it 1-1.

Both teams seemed to have convinced themselves that a draw was a likely result, but Sporting substitute Ogba Kalu, the Nigerian midfielder, came off the bench to head home Anthony’s corner in the 80th minute as Sporting Clube celebrated a stunning win. (UNI)
