Myanmar nationals held

IMPHAL: Assam Rifles on Friday held 18 Myanmarese nationals at Khaikhual of Chandel district by troops of 35 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South). Confirming the news, Assam rifles sources said the nabbed Myanmerese were residents of Langtang, Tonjang. They were handed over to Churachandpur Police station. (UNI)

Trains cancelled in Assam

GUWAHATI: Security concerns have led the Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) to cancel running of several passenger trains from on Friday, while night running of long-distance trains is also likely to be stopped prior to Republic Day celebrations. An NFR spokesperson said seven passenger trains running through various routes in both East and West Assam will remain cancelled from Friday till further notice. (UNI)

Cong nominee becomes CEM

GUWAHATI: Congress nominee Joyram Engleng was on Friday elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the recently-formed Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) here. He defeated Opposition People’s Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA) candidate Haren Sing Bey. Engleng polled all 16 Congress votes in his favour. The KAAC has 30 seats, of which 26 are elected and four nominated from various minority communities in the district. (UNI)
