Shillong: MPCC president Friday Lyngdoh is expected to take a final call on his political career after his return from Vellore.

The veteran Congress leader is currently undergoing treatment at the Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.

“He (Lyngdoh) is expected to return to Shillong in two weeks. He is likely to take a final call on whether he would continue as the MPCC president,” the party’s acting president Deborah C Marak told reporters recently.

Marak further informed that the MPCC president is also likely to take a final decision on whether he would contest the upcoming Assembly election.

She also denied that Lyngdoh had written to the AICC to relieve him from his post of MPCC chief, as was reported in a section of the press.

“As far as my knowledge goes, the MPCC president has not sent any such letter to the AICC,” Marak added.

Earlier, it was reported that Lyngdoh had also written to State Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope to relieve him from the post of Assembly Committee Chairman which had been shouldered with the responsibility of studying the Meghalaya Community Participation Bill, 2010.

It is learnt that the MPCC president had cited his ill-health behind his decision.

Sources also informed that Lyngdoh had suggested the name of Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh for appointment as Chairman of the Assembly Committee.
