Khyndailad and adjoining areas is yet to begin again after the Christmas vacations for reasons best known to the concerned authorities.

In the meantime, the large number of people who throng the area daily are having a tough time negotiating the mud, small puddles and the construction materials dumped along the thoroughfare.

The condition was further aggravated last week following rains which led to creation of small puddles and the whole area turned slippery and accident-prone. Wmoen and kids had a tough time negotiating the thoroughfare.

Besides, since the work was stopped, the entire thoroughfare has been turned into a temporary roadside market by hawkers who display their wares on the roadside leading to severe congestion.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, Commissioner and Secretary PSG Lyngdoh said that there is a leakage of water pipe in the area which has led to the present condition of Khyndailad.

“There is a leakage of water pipe and we have requested the PHE department to repair it,” Lyngdoh said.

He also denied that work had stopped at Khyndailad, while adding that the department was now carrying out work near the Thana Road where the utility docks are being laid.

Lyngdoh also explained that the work was progressing at a slow pace since the workers could not work during the day time owing to congestion and they were braving the cold weather in the city while working at night.

“Once the ground work is done we will just start laying the tiles,” Lyngdoh informed.

Despite all the difficulties, Lyngdoh assured that the beautification project would be completed before the commencement of the Monsoon.
