Militants hurl bomb
HAFLONG (ASSAM): A crude bomb was lobbed at a businessman’s house in central Assam’s Dima Hasao district by suspected militants on Monday night, police sources said. The extremists hurled the bomb at the house of Sabir Laskar in Kalibari Colony under Haflong police station around 8 pm and damaged parts of the house shattering its glass windows and breaking down things inside, the sources said. Police and civil officials rushed to the site. (PTI)
Children killed in fire in Assam
GUWAHATI: Two children of a family were charred to death when their hut caught fire while they were asleep late Sunday night at Balijuli, near Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, in northern Assam’s Sonitpur district. Reports said the fire started in one Francis Topno’s thatched roof hut in the middle of the night, engulfing the semi-permanent structure almost immediately. Spilled oil from a lit lamp inside the house is believed to have started the fire. While other family members managed to escape with burn injuries, two of the children, Aamsu and Anisua were killed. 3 apprehended in Manipur
IMPHAL: The Assam Rifles nabbed three people, including an Myanmar national, along with banned forest products from Dalpatti and Moreh districts. Official sources on Monday said troops of 31 Assam Rifles launched an operation at Dalpatti and Moreh districts on Sunday and apprehended three individual alongwith 175 kgs of banned red sandar wood. Rhino horn seized
GUWAHATI: A rhino horn was seized from a person in central Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday, official sources said. During routine checking at Demoguri police outpost, the horn kept inside a bag was recovered from a mini bus coming from Simoluguri to Nagaon town, the sources said. On being initially asked, one Nazrul Islam Khan travelling in the bus had claimed ownership of the bag. However, when he was taken to the police outpost and interrogated, Khan denied that the bag with the rhino horn belonged to him, they said. (PTI)
