SHILLONG: The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) on Wednesday granted bail to the ADC of the Governor, Gopa Kumar, who has been accused of molesting a teenaged dancer inside his official residence.

Confirming this, a senior police official said that Kumar has been granted bail since he had been booked under sections of the law which is bailable.

When asked if the police had arrested the ADC, he said that the ADC had himself surrendered to the court. Official sources however informed that the ADC would not be available for Republic Day celebration as he has gone on two days leave.

Earlier, Governor Secretariat Commissioner and Secretary P Shakhil Ahammed had said that they would wait for completion of police investigation before initiating any action against Kumar.

Kumar, who is with the Assam Rifles in the rank of Deputy Commandant, allegedly molested the 19-year-old dancer of the Megha Rockers Dance group on Sunday evening.

The ADC, however, has rubbished the allegation terming it as a ploy to ‘tarnish’ his image.
