AIZAWL: Six children from Mizoram have received the national bravery awards for children for the year 2011, the largest number of recipients the state has ever witnessed.

While C Lalduhawma had posthumously received Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak, the highest of the series of awards, five others; Martin Lalthamawia, Lalremmawia Sailo, Lalpuihzuali, K Lawmsanga and Lalmawizuali had received Jeevan Raksha Padak awards.

Lalduhawma’s father Lalpara, a resident of Aizawl’s Bethlehem Veng, received the award on behalf of his son.

On April 7, 2011, Lalduhawma gave his own life while trying to save his friend who was drowning in a pit created for a bridge foundation near their locality.

As he saw his friend in need of help, Lalduhawma jumped into the water.

After he saved his friend’s life, he was too exhausted to swim any longer and he drowned, a source from the state council for child welfare said today.

The five other kids also showed extraordinary courage to save the lives of others, the source added. (UNI)
