Tura transport services launched on R-Day

TURA: The Tura Public Transport Services (TPTS) together with Baghmara, Resubelpara and Williamnagar transport services were launched at Tura parade ground by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on the occasion of the 63rd republic Day celebrations.

The service was launched in the presence of Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

A total of 18 buses were launched out of which 10 buses are for Tura, 4 for williamnagar and two each for Baghmara and Resubelpara.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Dr Mukul Sangma said that the government is committed to respond to the aspirations of the people and urged the service providers to maintain a standard and dedicated service of the buses in the three regions of Garo Hills.Releasing a booklet on Meghalaya Tourism & Investment Promotion Scheme 2012 Dr Sangma informed that the project is designed to provide a platform for the young entrepreneurs of the state which would also generate employment.

He said that the government would create opportunities for every family and added that it is the dream of the government to free the state of BPL.

He mentioned that proper mapping of BPL families was underway. He stressed upon the need to sensitize people of the need to maintain peace and harmony and urged upon all concerned to spread the message of love and forgiveness. He also appealed to all officials to renew their commitment to the expectations of the people and maintain transparency and accountability.

Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, Sanjay Goyal, felt that public mode of transport is essential in a progressive state and it is the endeavor of the government to make headway in public transport system.

The Urban Affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh in her speech said that when the buses were introduced in Shillong there was a demand for such buses in Garo Hills and she expressed happiness that the government could fulfill the need of the people of the region. She hoped that the operators from the syndicate will do justice to it.

The program was chaired by Chairman of Tura Municipal Board, Mr.Kulert C Momin.
