NEW DELHI: Little progress has been recorded in the condition of two-year-old abandoned and battered baby Falak, with Delhi Police saying they are still searching for her parents.
Falak was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) here Jan 18 with multiple injuries, including a fractured skull, a clot on the right side of her brain, and human bite marks on her tiny frame.
She was brought to the hospital by a teenaged girl who claimed to be her mother.
The baby continues to be critical, but has shown some progress, doctors said.
“Infection is a major concern for the baby as of now,” Sumit Sinha, who is among the doctors attending on her, told reporters here.
“She has been on ventilator for seven to eight days, and tube (for oxygen) is still there. So we are continuously monitoring her for infection and giving her high power antibiotics,” he said.
Falak was taken off the ventilator Friday.
The doctor added that though there were some positive signs, there was no certainty of her recovery.
“It is difficult to say how well and when she will recover. But seeing the damage, some problems will be there,” he said.
The doctor added that there were only 30 to 40 percent chances of the baby recovering, and effects on her brain are most likely to leave her mentally impaired.
Meanwhile, police have launched a massive hunt for the child’s parents and said they have constituted several teams to locate them as also those who had handed over the baby to the teenaged girl, who is currently in a juvenile home.
Speaking to reporters here, Additional Commissioner of Police (south east) Ajay Choudhury said that several police teams have been questioning people and there will be a breakthrough soon.
“We are putting in our best efforts to solve the case and the culprits will be arrested soon,” said Choudhury.
He added that the teenaged girl who brought Falak to AIIMS was neither the baby’s mother nor her relative.
“We are searching for Raj Kumar (who was living with the teenaged girl) and once we catch him we will be able to get to the bottom of the case,” said Choudhury.
