SHILLONG: The Magisterial inquiry probing into the alleged diversion of the PDS rice into the ‘black market’ has recommended for cancellation of the license of the wholesaler dealer of Laitumkhrah area Litilda Surong, even as it recommended filing of an FIR against the wholesaler.

The Magisterial Inquiry, headed by M Diengdoh, in its report has also recommended filing of an FIR against the manager of the wholesaler Birju who is absconding.

The recommendations of the Magisterial Inquiry report were revealed on Monday by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) Jopthiaw Lyngdoh.

“The magisterial inquiry made an interesting recommendation suggesting the need for proper sealing of the rice sack with the Unique Identification Number (UID) before lifting it from the FCI godown,” Lyngdoh said.

The DC (Supply) also said that the inquiry report has also recommended stringent action against the (Contd on P-10)

(Contd from P-1) accused including Weston Nonghuloo, Nitesh Agarwal and Nand Kishore Agarwal, Henry Nonghuloo (owner of the truck where police had seized 180 bags the PDS rice from Iew Mawlong) and Suresh Sunar (the truck driver) who were involved in the diversion of the PDS rice in Shillong.

Lyngdoh also informed that the report has recommended that the remaining rice in the godown of the businessmen (Agarwals) should be confiscated.

The inquiry report has further recommended the need to review the posting of the lifting officer, Lyngdoh said.

The DC (Supply) assured that he would take action as per the recommendations of the report.

“In relation of action to be initiated against the errant people who are involved in the diversion of the PDS rice, the same has to be verified with the police since they have already conducted an investigation against these people,” Lyngdoh said.

When asked if it was correct to take action against Surong since police believe that she is a ‘scapegoat’ in this whole conspiracy, he said that she has to be penalized since the license was under her name.

It may be recalled that after recently questioning Surong, police was able to establish that it was the former wholesaler (Weston Nonghuloo) who was responsible for the diversion of the PDS rice into the black market.

Not only this, police was also able to establish that Western is the younger brother of Surong who is being made a ‘scapegoat’ in this entire racket.
