SHILLONG: Outgoing East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jopthiaw Lyngdoh, says it is difficult to take action against fair price shop dealers since most complaints are verbal and in the form of hearsay and not in writing.
“This is the problem with large sections of the public. They keep on complaining but do nothing. If we had a written complaint, we would have acted accordingly,” Lyngdoh told reporters here on Tuesday. Responding to the recent complaints by the people with regards to irregular distribution of PDS items especially whole meal atta, Lyngdoh had suggested that the complainants should lodge a written complaint to the concerned authorities.
“I have heard murmurs about the mismanagement of the PDS but if people do not lodge a formal complaint it becomes difficult to act on the basis of hearsay only,” Lyngdoh reiterated.
However, after the recent scam in the distribution of PDS item where PDS food grains were found to be diverted to the open market, the DC has assured that the government is pro-active in taking stringent action against such defaulters.
“The District Administration is taking strict measures to ensure that items for PDS are not diverted to the open market at the cost of the poor and deserving consumers,” Lyngdoh stated.
