NSCN groups exchange gunfire
KOHIMA: The armed cadres of the NSCN (Khaplang) and GPRN/NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) exchanged gunfire at Ghukiye village near Zunheboto town on Tuesday evening. Sources here on Wednesday said the firing lasted for around 10-15 minutes following what reports say that the NSCN (K) fired upon GPRN/NSCN members at their camp who retaliated. No injury or casualty was reported. The GPRN/NSCN sources has expressed ‘surprise’ over how the Assam Rifles, who were manning at least three check points in and around Ghukiye village could allow NSCN (K) members to enter the village. NSCN (K) did not confirm any injury or casualty from their side. (UNI)
Nagaland Police detains three
KOHIMA: The Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel have taken into custody three people, including two women, from Duncan Basti in Dimapur after an AK-47 assault rifle was found in their possession. Official sources said the IRB personnel were conducting normal frisking duties at Duncan Basti last evening, during which an unregistered vehicle with five occupants came. On seeing the security force, two persons escaped from the vehicle at the stoppage. Three people in the vehicle, including two women, were detained while a Kalashnikov Assault Rifle was found from their possession. Sources said the Police sources identified one of the three detained persons, while the two women were yet to be identified. (UNI)
NSCN cadre, linkman held
HAFLONG (ASSAM): A NSCN(IM) cadre and a linkman of the outfit were apprehended, and huge quantities of arms and ammunition seized from them by security forces in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, police said on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, the army and police in a joint operation nabbed the duo on Tuesday in Lodi village, they said. The security forces seized four AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, an ammunition pouch and 515 live ammunition of AK-47 from them, they said. (PTI)
