SHILLONG: The State Urban Affairs department has requested the Planning Department for augmentation of the ten per cent cut to the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase III which has been funded under the JNNURM.
“We have requested the Planning department to augment this ten percent cut on the GSWSS from the State fund,” official sources informed on Wednesday.
While stating that the total amount sanctioned for the project is 193.74 crore, the sources said that an amount of Rs 19 crore would be deducted from the total cost of the project due to this ten percent cut.
“With the deduction of such a huge amount the implementation of this very important project has been badly affected,” the sources added.
It may be mentioned that the Centre had imposed a cut of 10 per cent after the State failed to initiate the reform under urban governance which was laid down under the JNNURM.
Meanwhile, the sources said that the implementation of this project, which targets to provide water connection to 44,000 households in the city, is likely to be further delayed on account of this ten per cent cut.
Even though the original deadline to complete the project was June 2012, it has already been extended to September 2012 following a request from the PHE department.
