Mopping in Tripura

AGARTALA: Following the culling of 6204 poultry in the vicinity of the government poultry farm in Lembucherra, about 25 km from here, mopping operation has started to disinfect the area, official sources said on Thursday. Director of Animal Resources department, Manoranjan Sarkar said, after culling mopping operation started since Wednesday in the three km radius of Lembucherra farm and added it would be completed on Thursday. Sarkar said, entry of poultry was banned for ten days since the outbreak of the disease and Border Security Force (BSF) was alerted so that no chicken or ducks could enter into the state from Bangladesh which shares 856 long border with Tripura. 3 die in accident

ITANAGAR: Three people died on the spot when their car skidded off the road, flung high into the air and fell into a 40-metre deep gorge along NH-52A between Itanagar and Naharlagun on Wednesday night. Michi Kago(28) was found dead on the driving seat, while Puna Nobin(20) and Karka Bahadur Lama(29) were found lying dead near the completely damaged car. Itanagar Police, which retrieved the bodies on Thursday morning and took those to the hospital, Naharlagun for post-mortem, has registered a case and launched investigation. The spot, known as Shiv Mandir point, had witnessed a bus accident on May 22, 2004, killing 48 passengers. (UNI)

Explosives recovered

HAFLONG (ASSAM): A huge quantity of explosives was recovered from the Barak Valley Express at Lower Haflong railway station, officials said on Thursday. The explosives, including 200 detonators, 200 pipes containing explosives, two coils of electric wire and some equipment, were recovered from the Lumding-bound train coming from Silchar last night. On a tip off, GRP and RPF along with Train Scouts launched a joint search operation and detected the explosives in two bags under a seat, they said. (PTI)
