Seven hurt in road mishaps

SHILLONG: Five people were seriously injured when a coal loaded truck (ML 05 H 1225) on its way to Guwahati fell down into a 300 feet gorge at Puriang near Mawryngkneng at around 2pm on Friday.

The injured have been identified as Teibor Chyne (36) of Madanriting, Rowelstar Ranee (18) of Rynjah, Shan Kharbuli (26) of Madanriting, Nicholas Kharmawphlang (22) of Rynjah and Eugene Kharkongor (19) of Madanriting.

Police sources said these people were in a drunken state when the accident happened.

The injured have been shifted to Shillong Civil Hospital.

In another minor accident, two people were injured when a local taxi (ML 05 C 2335) was slightly hit at Mawlai Mawiong (Nongneng) at 9.30 am on Friday.

The injured are identified as Sophia Phawa (13) and Evarisha Kharbuki from Mawiong.

According to the police, the taxi which was parked there reversed due to slip of the gear and hit the two ladies.
