‘Mini Assam’ for tourists’ sake

Guwahati: Assam government is going to set up a ‘mini Assam’ at the outskirt of the city in Sonapur to provide the tourist an all encompassing impression of Assam, a mini India given its varied ethnicity, cultures, traditions and lifestyles.

The project envisages development of a large complex that will house representation of all traits and resources indigenous to provide the visitor a glimpse of the Assam in entirety at one stop.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has issued instruction to all concerned departments and agencies to prepare a detail project report on ‘Mini Assam’ that will be representative of the State and its people.

‘Mini Assam’ will have a reflection of rural life, tea gardens, rivers and wetlands, hills and river isles (char areas), places of tourists attraction such as Kaziranga, Manas, Majuli etc, the diverse ethnic communities together with their lifestyles, culture and literatures of the state.

The state government has also started the process of procuring land for setting up of a science city in Guwahati that is coming up in Sonapur. Over Rs 100 crore will be spent in developing the science city.

A golf-course and a full-fledged tribal centre are also being set up in greater Sonapur area near the city to make it a global destination.

The proximity of the area to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary which is a treasure trove of one-horned rhinoceros will add flavor to the package.

Already Assam Tourism Minister Chandan Brahma has announced that a helipad will be set up neat Pobitora Wildlife sanctuary to attract high-end tourists.
