SHILLONG: Despite the litigation cases, the work for the construction of the five star hotel at the old premises of Shillong Municipal Board in Jail road is going on in full swing.
An HM cement official on Saturday asserted that the hotel which will give the much required boost to the tourism sector in the state will be commissioned by next year.
The private firm HM Cements which is implementing the project has tied up with the famous Mariott group of hotels, USA to construct the much awaited five star hotel in the city.
“Presently we are laying the foundation of the building and infact we are compensating the lost work,” an HM official said here on Saturday.
The much awaited project hit a major stumbling block after some of the residents in the premises moved the court to save their shops from being demolished.
The upcoming hotel which is being constructed at 72000 square feet area will have around two hundred rooms with state of the art facilities.
According to official, they are fully concentrating on the work and the legal tangle is between the land owners and the State Government.
When asked whether the court cases will delay the project, the official said that the design may have to be changed as the last option if the court cases delays the project.
Under the project 30000 square feet of land has also been reserved for the office of the Shillong Municipal , adding the total estimated budget of the project is around Rs 100 crore.
The five star hotel in the city is expected to cater largely to the shortage of accommodation when hundreds of tourists visit the state especially in peak seasons.
