Bodo National Festival begins in Assam

KAJALGAON (ASSAM): The Fourth Bodo National Festival began on Sunday here with the hoisting of the flag to unite all Bodo groups scattered over various places in the North Eastern region including those in neighbouring Bangaladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.

Festive atmosphere gripped the area in Assam’s Chirang district under Bodoland Territorial Administered District (BTAD)as Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Biswajit Daimary hoisted the flag to mark the beginning of the five-day festival.

More than 3000 delegates are participating in the festival which includes cultural shows, traditional games demonstration, trade fair, food festivals and open discussions on the present status of the various tribes of the region.

The festival committee, headed by Deputy Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Kampa Borgoyary, has also arranged for trips to several Bodo villages and important institutions and establishments of the BTC.

A souvenir titled ‘The Great Bodo Race’ was also released by Borgoyari who stressed the need for a common Bodo dictionary.

Borgoyary also stressed the importance of socio-economic and cultural development of all communities and also to work unitedly for the common progress by involving people of all communities in the area. (PTI)
