Body recovered
IMPHAL: The body of a 40-year old woman was found in Churachand district in Manipur on Monday, official sources said. The woman was identified as Ngasungching (40) of Saikot. The body was recovered by the police and sent to the Churachandpur hospital for post mortem, sources said. (PTI)
Police fires to quell protest
IMPHAL: Manipur Police resorted to heavy firing at Kongba areas of Imphal East to control people, who came out in streets to protest killing of a youth in an alleged fake encounter. A youth identified as S Jiten of Kongba Nongthombam Leikai was allegedly shot dead in an encounter by Manipur police on January 26 at Yaralpat, Imphal East. A JAC formed against the killing of the youth claimed the youth was innocent and was killed in a fake encounter and called a 24 hour bandh. (UNI)
Two militants killed
KOHIMA: Two militants were killed in a factional fight between two groups of NSCN at Athibung in Nagaland’s Peren district, official sources said on Monday. Confirming the incident, NSCN(K) sources claimed that its cadre attacked a “mobile camp” of the GPRN/NSCN comprising around 10 armed activists, killing two members of the rival camp on Sunday and injuring one while the rest managed to escape.
