Three Salesians and a student were seriously in

jured in a horrific road accident recently on the

Shillong-Guwahati Highway (near Byrnihat).

The vehicle (Wagon R) in which they were travelling was involved in a head-on collision with a truck. On impact, the car went up in flames just after the injured were pulled out of the car.

They were taken to the GNRC Hospital, Guwahati and are out of danger now. The injured are Fr James Perunneparampil; Benny Alex, Principal of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong; Fr Joby Joseph, Vice Principal of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong and Sanroy, a first year BSc student of the college.

They were all saved by a ‘godsend’ engineer working in the ongoing 4-lane road work in the highway.

Fr Joby, while recounting the accident, said, “It was head on, those in front managed to come out by themselves. But those at the back, badly injured and bleeding, were pulled out by a passer-by named Andrew. As soon as we were out, the car went up in flames while two mobile phones were also burnt. In about 20 minutes, an engineer Mr Ramesh from the ongoing 4-lane road work (made an extra effort to come all the way) took us and our luggage in his Bolero to Guwahati Neurological Research Centre, which ultimately saved us. If not for him we would have bled to death.
