Shillong: The State Police was engaged in a gun battle with GNLA militants at the outskirts of Napha Apal in East Garo Hills at around 6.30 am on Tuesday.
Police sources informed that the police team came under fire from GNLA insurgents while conducting an operation at Napha Apal, forcing them to return fire.
“Six militants managed to escape but police recovered one grenade, six empty cases of AK 47 rifles and several demands notes from the spot,” the sources informed while adding that no one was injured in the encounter.
In another incident, GNLA militants fired in the air near Sangsak Police Station in East Garo Hills at around 7 pm on Monday.
According to police sources, a group of militants travelling in a white Maruti van fired in the air from a pistol and fled away.
“Police tried to chase the militants but were unsuccessful in nabbing them,” the sources added.
