Shillong: While insisting that the GNLA should lay down arms, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma also appealed to the banned terrorist outfit from Garo Hills to join in the various initiatives of the Government.
The Chief Minister, however, refused to give a direct reply as to whether the Government would call the GNLA for a dialogue.
Earlier, the UDP had called upon the State Government to explore all possible means for restoring peace including calling the GNLA for talks.
It may be mentioned that Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh had made it clear that the Government is not going to hold any dialogue with the GNLA.
Meanwhile, Dr Sangma said that he does not believe in the strategy to neutralize any militant group.
“Any attempt to neutralize a militant group would lead to the emergence of new outfits. We want to address the root cause of militancy,” the Chief Minister said while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, he said the Government would in fact want all the misguided youth to become part and parcel of the various initiatives of the Government.
“We want each and every youth of the State to capitalize on the initiatives of the Government for their overall growth and development,” Dr Sangma said.
He further said that the Government is committed to bringing peace and progress in the State.
